DATE: 2007
PUBLISHER: International Center for Research on Women (ICRW)
The toolkit is a collection of participatory educational exercises for educating
health care providers on the issues of stigma and gender-based violence. It was
developed for and with health care providers in Andhra Pradesh, India. The
modules use a learner-centred, participatory approach to training — one built
around discussion and small-group activities. The goal is to facilitate open
discussion on HIV stigma and gender violence, and on what health workers can do
to promote a change in attitude and practice. It includes modules with training
exercises that are meant to be used selectively, according to the trainer's

TITLE: Gender, Sexuality, Rights and HIV
AUTHOR: S. Banerjee and U. Sharma
DATE: 2007
PUBLISHER: International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO)
This document is a resource for NGOs and CBOs to build greater understanding of
how gender and sexuality determine vulnerability to HIV. The document also
highlights major human rights declarations, treaties and recommendations that
can be used by individuals and associations to advocate for their rights and
hold decision makers accountable to their commitments. This document is a
summary of a desk-based review of literature that examines the factors that
contribute to the vulnerability and risk of HIV infection in men, women, and
men-who-have-sex-with-men (MSM). Though other sexual minorities such as
transgender are equally vulnerable to HIV, vulnerabilities of transgender and
other sexual minorities are outside the scope of this guide.

| Documenting and Communicating HIV/AIDS Work: A Toolkit to Support NGOs/CBOs |
TITLE: Documenting and Communicating HIV/AIDS Work: A Toolkit to Support NGOs/CBOs
AUTHOR: International HIV/AlDS Alliance
DATE: 2001
PUBLISHER: International HIV/AlDS Alliance
"Documenting and Communicating HIV/AIDS Work" is a toolkit of participatory
activities that aims to build practical skills among NGOs/CBOs responding to
HIV/AIDS in developing countries. It is a resource to help such groups improve
the quality of their programme work and external relations - by recording,
learning from and sharing their lessons and results. Although this toolkit does
not focus on gender per se, it is a useful tool for building skills among
organizations working on gender and HIV/AIDS.

Women Speak |
 |
 |
|
I am Gracia Violeta Ross Quiroga, a 28-year-old woman from Bolivia living
with HIV. It was in March 2000, when I had an infection that would not heal,
that I went to hospital for tests. I was tested for many different illnesses
including HIV. When the HIV test came back HIV positive, I could not believe it.
My family did not reject me but received me with open arms, and told me they did
not want to know what happened, they just wanted to be with me and support me
until the last day. Since I completed my Bachelor’s degree, I have been writing
publications and giving lectures on gender issues and the plight of PLWHA. The
terrible injustices affecting PLWHA in my country, especially against women,
encouraged me to get involved.
