Meeting the needs of children affected by AIDS Millions of children across
the world have already lost their mothers to AIDS. Millions more are caring for
their sick mothers, knowing they will die soon. With proper support within their
communities, mothers can be cared for in their homes, and continue to care for
their children. Until now, support for children affected by AIDS has focused on
orphans. In Missing Mothers: Meeting the needs of children affected by AIDS,
Save the Children argues that we should also be targeting mothers. The more care
a mother gets, and the longer she can be supported at home, the better her
children’s chances of survival.
