ICW: Equal numbers does not mean equal access PDF Print E-mail
The International Community of Women with HIV/AIDS welcomes the news that more HIV positive men and women are accessing treatment. However, we fear that progress on 3 by 5 will lead policymakers to assume that gender inequality and women's rights are no longer pressing concerns. We cannot assume that relatively equal numbers of women and men receiving treatment at the point of distribution means that the barriers women face in accessing treatment are the same as men, or that women are able to use the treatment to improve the quality of their lives in the same way as men.
