In 2000, the Rockefeller Foundation engaged experts in the field of microbicides in a process to examine key issues in making safe and effective microbicides available as soon as possible. Five working groups were convened to identify issues and make recommendations in the following areas: Science and Research, Public Health Impact, Pharmaco-Economics, Access Issues, and Advocacy. The results of these five working groups lead to compelling conclusions about next steps in fulfilling the promise of microbicides for HIV/STD prevention.
